Two kids approached me with a need to guide them in art. I asked “do you want me to guide you to paint, or teach you techniques or arrange for an artist / expert to coach you or help you to open up to art. They choose ‘opening up’.
I committed to bring activities to make them friends with art through different activities. They themselves were curious; what does ‘opening up’ entail.
We began our art session to ‘playing with paints’. One adult guest also joined the session. Kids and adults both were a bit apprehensive about ‘how to play with paints’? We are grown up and think that ‘paints are to be painted and thats all’.
As they started making something with paints, I started pouring water to bring them to play. When I gave them the idea to paint with feet, initially they rejected ‘how can we paint with feet! Soon they started painting with feet and palms, mixed colors and ‘opened up’ to receive paints as paints.
Next day we also painted with only water and painted in sand, on cemented surface, in shade, in sun…
We continue to ‘play with art’ to open up :).
