To live is to create. Facilitation itself is an act of creation. Let’s explore creating some aspects of facilitation which can open kaleidoscope of possibilities for whom we facilitate and for ourselves.
We are born creators and all acts of learning are creations. Any doing is certain kind of creation in itself. We create how we walk, talk, and think. We create options, opportunities and decisions. We create relationships, meaning and joy.
Through facilitation also we constantly create. Some windows which facilitators create are explored here.
# Creating Environment for the child – This could be judgmental or supportive, didactic or inviting, imposing or contemplative, expecting or accepting, interfering or inspiring, and so on.
# Creating Relationship with the child. This relationship could focus on me, my needs and wants, my thoughts and feelings or could value the child’s. The relationship could be driven by me or could be understanding and empowering the child. In this relationship, I could be the leader or I could follow the child’s instincts, interests, choices, failures, successes, and her act of creating her life.
#Creating Possibilities for the child. This could be via suggestions, via offering options and creating opportunities. These choices could help the child expand her thinking, her explorations, her work. We could offer possibilities via resources like books, websites, videos, people, places, materials, kits, tools, accessories etc. We could offer ideas, concepts, skills, content, and knowhow.
#Creating Awareness in the child (much like a mirror). Awareness of feelings, thoughts, actions, intentions, beliefs, images and body. We can create awareness of different perspectives and paradigms that could exist. We can make the child aware of her being an infinite, capable and wholesome individual, full of qualities, intelligence and skills, all available for her to use to create herself and her life
We can do all this creating because we are essentially creative by nature. We too are not static human beings, rather a kaleidoscope of million possibilities
