Often, when families choose homeschooling or unschooling as an educational path for their children, a common shift happens: somehow, everything is taken entirely into the parents’ hands.

But true education is not about taking all the control into our hands. It is about co-creating with the child. In this whole journey, the child is an equal partner.

The Magical Formula

Among all the strategies available to alternative educators, co-creation is the one I find truly magical. Whether you are building a daily schedule, designing a learning plan, or mapping out any other goals, co-creation is the ultimate formula.

I’m Aditi from Aarohi, where we have worked with hundreds of children at our campus. In our community, we co-create right from the start—deciding where to travel, what to cook, what our daily schedule should be, and what changes we want to make to that schedule as we go. Everything is co-created.

What Does Co-Creation Actually Mean?

Co-creation means everybody has a voice. Everyone’s voice is heard, and everyone’s opinion is taken into consideration.

When children are empowered to express their voices, their needs, and their thought processes, they naturally participate in different things. When that happens, there is no longer a need for parents to manufacture experiences for them. Instead, life and learning happen organically as a part of co-creation and co-partnership.

Sharing the Responsibility

Through this approach, responsibility becomes a shared responsibility. Children participate in everything:

  • What to learn and how much to learn
  • When to get up and when to have meal timings at home
  • When to go for travel

When children are true partners, the dynamic shifts from resistance to cooperation. If you want to experience this happening in action, come and join us at Aarohi, and experience the magic of co-creation for yourself!
