So, imagine that you tie yourself up to a chair. Yeah, nicely tie yourself up to a chair. What will happen?
Now, once you are tied up to your chair, obviously you can’t move anywhere. In fact, go ahead and do this. Tie yourself up and see what happens.
But you see, if you imagine, once you are tied up, only your children can come to you, right? And when they come to you, you will respond from your tied-up position. I’m sure your emotions, your tone, your manner of speech, all will be very different because you are tied up. You are tied up to a place. You’re not free. You can’t go all around, right? You are stuck at one place.
So, when the children come to you, you’re all hassled up, bugged up, irritated, frustrated, whatever. Your whole state of mind is different.
The Ropes of Parenting
Now, you would say, why am I sharing this? Because as parents, a lot of us are tied up. And then when children come, they come to our tiedness.
And when we are tied to so many things, then when we respond to children, we respond in that way. Being tied up with so many ropes, when children come to us, we respond in a different way. Our emotions, our tones, our thoughts are very different.
We are tied to our:
- Beliefs
- Opinions
- Knowledge
- Thinking
- Styles
- Images of good, bad, ugly, right, and wrong
Unlocking a Limitless State
What if we could be free from all these ropes? What if we were not tied? Then we don’t really need to operate from that tiedness. Then when children come to us or we go to children, we are free, we are limitless.
Wouldn’t that be the best gift we can give to our children?
Because only when we are limitless or unlimited, our children can be unlimited or limitless. And that state is a beautiful state of being.
In fact, when children are born, they are limitless. It’s only we with our tied-ness keep inviting them to our tied-ness.
