Scotland Desserts

Every land is unique so are the ingredients available and the deserts we make out of them. Welcome to episode 1 of Making Desserts from different countries. Today we are making desserts from Scotland. It’s not just known for waterfalls and islands, it also has an amazing food culture. Here are 3 dishes I made that were lip-smacking

  1.   shortbread
  2.   Dundee cake
  3.   Sticky Toffee Pudding

Shortbread

Shortbread is a kind of butter cookie. No no! it’s not the regular butter cookie, it has a much different texture, it is a crumbly, soft, thick, and thin layer of crisp. I loved it. Of course, the cookie is made of butter, sugar, and flour in a 1:2:3 ratio.

This is a simple straightforward recipe. Whip sugar and butter then add flour to make it a soft dough, the consistency should be between a thick cake batter and a regular cookie dough. To make it more flavourful I just added a dash of vanilla extract and sprinkled some sea salt. Just spread the dough in a cake tin about 1 inch high. Poke some holes in it and cut them in the desired shape, it helps in baking and even flat cookies.

I found most of the recipes call for lots of butter. By the end of the week, I will be addicted to this amazing buttery flavor and smell. Sorry back to the cookie! Bake it for 10-13 min at 350c as usual and Eat duh!

This cookie is a punch of sweet buttery goodness. Something interesting about this cookie is its diversity of flavors, it can elevate any flavor and toppings. For example – caramel, chocolate, cocoa nibs, nuts, jams, and much more. We can try a savory version of this too!
