It all started with a train journey where Aswathy made a trailer along with her friends. She had enjoyed the process so much that in her hearts, she had declared to herself ‘I am going to be a filmmaker’. After that, there was no stopping her – she would pick up her camera and go about shooting everything in her way.

Someone found their true calling right away, sounds like a fairy tale right? Surprisingly, it is not!

After having spent enough time creating short films by herself, Aswathy felt it was time for her to get onto an actual film set. She got the opportunity to assist a Kannada film director for his upcoming mainstream movie.

Through the process of spending a year as AD, Aswathy realised that the process, industry and profession of Filmmaking was entirely different from what she had imagined. She decided that she can’t take up films as her profession. She still enjoys making short films and film making continues to be her creative pursuit.

Often we fantasize about our passion when we begin the exploration at a personal, individual level. Later, the ground reality turns out to be quite different from our imagination. Hence, it is all the more essential that one gets an understanding of the domain and industry, to be able to make an informed choice about one’s profession.
