For 2 years we have never bought cake outside for any of our birthdays or anniversaries. 2 weeks prior I talked to my parents about what kind of cake and theme they would prefer(half of them were my preferences though \ud83e\udd2a, and I made them fill a small forms. These are the things I wanted to know from the discovery call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What flavor<\/li>\n\n\n\n
what cream do you prefer<\/li>\n\n\n\n
How many tiers and quantity<\/li>\n\n\n\n
What feel and vibe you want from the cake<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Any specifications of egg, eggless or gluten free<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Any allergies<\/li>\n\n\n\n
When do you want <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Do I have creative freedom <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Share few reference pictures <\/li>\n\n\n\n
Can describe the cake you would like<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
I gave 3-4 options for each question. Giving these options will let the customer feel they are customizing it and easy to select. It also restricts the customer to choose only from them and which baker (me) likes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With their input, I made a few sketches of cakes which took quite a lot of time, and shared them with my parents. They wanted something royal, a fantasy 3-tier cake, and gave me creative freedom. They also shared a few reference cakes picture which helped me asses their preferences and style. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They liked the below design and then asked for a few changes. Honestly, I didn\u2019t like that design but what customers choose is always right!!! and now I know why my designer sister always complains about her clients choosing the worst design. This cake is very challenging to make and guess what!!! I am ready to face it and bang myself. I started by making a project plan.
Now I have my design ready but I really could not imagine how this would turn out. So I made a paper model of the cake. Now I could image and feel the cake much better. I made a list of things I should learn and how I want to learn<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- Taste testing 6 flavors \u2013 Research on different flavor and try them out. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Smooth icing finishing \u2013 Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Knife painting \u2013 Observe lots of videos, try and practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Butter cream & ganache \u2013 Join INBC course<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Different shape cake pops \u2013 Find different types of methods i can do<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Tempering chocolate for making a chocolate door \u2013 YT<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- fondant figures \u2013 Trial and error<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- clouds \u2013 Find different material I can use and experiment. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
  I tried to gain these skills for 1.5 weeks, of course, I didn\u2019t master it but upskilled myself a little. I had a great experience trying to learn different skills in different ways. Everything went well. I thought I would start doing the cake 2 days before but due to a little confusion about the date I started it 1 day before, huh I am dumb!!!!! I was stressed and didn\u2019t know where to start how to start. I discussed this with my guide and my sister. I started by making a list of things to do and then allocated reasonable time for each task. I started with baking and whipping cream and I felt I managed my time well and was able to push myself and complete all the tasks for the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
