I am Srijani here is a small tale from my journey of making my passion for baking into a profession. This tale is all about the experiences I had in Bakers Fest. this fest is hosted by the home bakers community in Bangalore. I got to know about this from one of the Aarohi community. I was excited about this fest as I didn’t attend any fests like this and also felt it was a good opportunity for me to interact with people from my industry.

With that excitement, I explored all the floors in the hall and went straight to the live demo session that was happening. there were about 18 sessions for 3 days and I have attended almost all. they taught different stuff like wafer paper flowers, pistachio bars, fondant figurines, millet cakes, diabetic-friendly apple bars, etc. It was like they were showering us with lots of knowledge. I enjoyed all of them. each session was unique and informative on its own. One session was very lively and energetic, one session was boring, one session was more focused on getting the recipe right, one was focusing on the science behind it, and one was focusing on tips and tricks. I got to know lots of new terms, tools, ingredients, and techniques. btw I got to taste a few samples. It was hard to sit and see them bake and share their knowledge for the whole day and note them. My hands were itching to bake.

During the breaks between these sessions, I interacted with a lot of bakers. It was weird to initiate a conversation with a stranger I literally read an article about, I know it’s foolish but yaa. The only thing that pushed me was I wanted to build my network and also know how else I could learn and what I should learn and know more about their role in the industry. I felt everyone was open to talk. it was like playing a game I looked around the hall set a target, like the people I wanted to interact with, and find ways to talk to them. It was nice hearing different perspectives and knowledge levels. I also did a lot of CoVersity advertisementing, FYI.

I also got a chance to witness the bake competition happening. I always liked watching baking battels on TV shows. I liked the vibe of the whole place, and the way all of them divided the work with full focus. They also displayed a lot of cakes in the cake exhibition. omg!! I couldn’t believe those were cakes. I really appreciate the hard work and patience they have put into the cake & attention to each detail. I got good inspiration and got to know different mediums on which cakes are made and decorated.

finally, the stalls were filled with chocolates, ingredients, tools, machines, and gift hampers. This is what is called the baker’s paradise. I was so fascinated by just seeing them. I made a big list got approval from family and bought all the stuff I needed. They also gave lot of free samples. I am very used to shopping along with family and now I shop for stuff alone i felt very different. I don’t have a second opinion or a person to share all the excitement with.

Overall an amazing experience o rather a sweet experience that gave me lots of baker friends and insights.

Hi!
