Fashion Designing is not necessarily for people who loves fashion or are fashionable. It is about detailing, observing, understanding (culture, trends, needs), resourcefulness, illustration, imagination, inspiration fine motor skills…..and hard work.
Yes, this is what we understood when we visited J D Institute of fashion technologies for outdoor. We went through a presentation on what is fashion designing and whom it is for…interacted with few students who had designed a costume for bike riders, we listened t o their journey saw their work and could relate with their struggle. One of them shared “everything in the beginning WAS difficult, now it is not”.
We went through the process of imagination to implementation…began with mind map of our imagination….saw portfolios of students, saw the demonstration, understood stitching….It was a day filled with understanding FASHION or rather DESIGNING.
Heartfelt gratitude to Brinda and Aarvind from the institute who designed the whole experience for us, took part enthusiastically and treated us with yummy lunch. Brinda, one of the faculty at the institute, she not only shared about fashion designing but also first understood about Aarohi to know our needs and design her session to suit our needs – it was a customized session like fashion designing :-). Few parents took part in the session and were involved in pondering about this field of designing.
