A small action of washing feet of each other brought memory of many cultures one has experienced – in marriage, with guests, in religion…
Thought club brought pondering process on culture
Dance with any partner on different music – what culture is this? Culture of dance, joy, and that’s all!
And a reflection of culture – what I carry, what I have left – Culture of food, business, learning, language, starting the day, celebrating bdays, respect, prayers, dressing, dance, hospitality, names keeping, greeting, festival….a lot of stories came alive from our homes, grandparents, and celebrations. The community came alive with sharing with each other.
And just a discussion on “what is culture” during morning circle brought an opportunity to understand “my understanding of culture” – for some it was tradition while for some it was about joy, happiness, togetherness, feelings, connecting, belief, purpose variety, symbolic, and variety.
And a show of other’s culture – prayer before food, oil bath, rangoli in front of the house, touch feet and blessings, prayers and chanting, lighting the lamp, food culture, festival, head bath, heavy lunch, make together, Lassi party, dance, and music, rice, fruits, every day pray to a different god, Diya at the door, satsang, books together, no god – guru or malik, sing songs, and prayers, spiritual, connect with higher self, bday celebrations with prayers, to thank god, special sweets, blessings of elders, wearing saree, believe in religion – not believe, pray five times a day, sins, no-loan policy, distribute the food, coming together for the festivals, visiting grandparents homes, head bath, on festival visit and social gatherings, naming the children, stars, …generated some thoughts in each one of us – few said “we all are connected in some ways, different perspective through culture, boundaries, and open door through culture”!
A tradition of sitting together and eating together – just for an experience for a dinner.
