Emotions and Children – Here’s what an 8 year old taught us

Children are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded – Jess Lair

We, as adults, often view children with certain preconceived notions, assuming they need to be instructed in most of the areas, including Emotions. This might be because most of the adults today aren’t aware of their own emotions.  Our generation was always taught that emotions are to be controlled and kept at a distance. In the process of doing this many adults have lost touch with our emotions to a larger extent. Nowadays there are even apps that help us know what emotion we might be experiencing in a given moment.

But here’s a video of an 8 year old sharing about his emotions and how he associates differently with different feelings and different experiencesAs he has sharing his experience of anxiousness, very casually he shared as a matter of sudden realization “I felt Joy, mostly everyday” and then went on to share what gave him joy from tennis practice. And also what made him anxious.

This challenges the whole paradigm of how Kids and their knowledge of Emotions are viewed.
