Is our mind and body connected?

Awareness of mind and body

Awareness of stillness – Close eyes and sit as still as possible, open eyes and write your experience

Awareness of sight – Gaze at one point and that’s all

Awareness of movements – Close eyes and move one by one body para ( as per the prompt)

Awareness of touch – Close eyes and move one by one body part (as per the prompt)

Awareness of coordination – open and close fingers and thumb alternatively.

Awareness of habits – write a sentence, draw a dog, perfect circle using another hand.

There is an old saying “If you can’t find a solution, go for a walk”? Is mind connected with the body? Does it make sense to do different kinds of activities with the body?

Pillow fight was the part of the planning session, followed by alternate relaxation – Just to bring awareness of different states of minds and response of the body.

Mime brought expression through silence!
Using different ways our body to play the games in thought club – just awareness and experience that the body exists! And there are unlimited possibilities with it – carry a ball between shoulder, keep the ball in between knees and take from one point to another, keep on the forehead and drop from one place to another – just play with the body not only with the ball!

Once upon a time, not so very long ago,I, the Bodywas much sought after. Warriors depended on me; craftsmen used me to create both articles of utility and beauty; dancers and dramatists added depth to culture; sport was the primary pastime, and many professions used hands dexterously to achieve and to perform. A lot of education was about developing my presence in each child. I was valued because people believed in the magic of hands and body. I was popular because people could create and perform with me. I was important because like other intelligence, my role was natural for balanced human development. But I am now losing my importance. Hands do not create these days, children are forgetting that ‘making’ things with their hands is fundamental to their mind’s development, that movement, hand, and body skills, and body and mind coordination are intrinsic to learning, that it is time to ‘welcome’ me back in your life. What I, the Body would recommend is that have a healthy mix of all the five categories, and within each category a wide exposure at different times of your development – then you have what I would like to call as inside-out development of the mind!

1 Gross motor Activitieslike Playing field sports like football, basketball, badminton, tennis etc and Individual body skills like Park equipment play, Martial Arts, Swimming, Gymnastics, Hula Hoop, Trampoline, Slackline, etc. Include also daily household works like washing clothes using hands, washing utensils, brooming and mopping floors, etc. Include also body development via Running, Aerobics, Yoga, Various ‘core’ workouts and yes workouts.

2 Fine Motor activitieslike drawing, sketching, needlework of any kind (embroidery, crochet, knitting), clay modeling/ pottery, wood carving, carpentry, origami, etc. Include fine motor kitchen activities like peeling, chopping, etc.

3 Coordination activitieslike hand Juggling, football juggling, wall practicing (using cricket, tennis, table tennis racket and ball), Balancing activities, etc.

4 Whole-brain or Brain Gym activities.Add the simple way of using the other hand (left for right-handers) for regular stuff like writing, drawing, eating, brushing, etc. Also, include bare-feet walking in parks and lawns.

5 Expressive activitieslike Theater (mime, mono-acting, improv theater, body theater, etc), dancing, large blackboard or canvas Painting, etc.

What happens to our brain when we play different sports, games, do yoga, dance, do fine motor activities like crochet, stitching, painting, etc. The idea was to explore and experience.
