The session on Images began with greeting each other good morning with eyes closed, nose closed, mouth closed and ears closed…. Kids explored the way it feels to greet this way. Throughout this session we were all sitting in a circle…. Started with playing a pass game… We passed sa, re, ga, ma, pa, da, ne…. in circles with counts.. Went well, kids were eager, many were already familiar with the order. Few practised the order. Kids had to be attentive to keep track of it. If someone missed the count of the swara, the other kids helped them to correct it… Then kids participated in the guided meditaton. Kids were eager to meditate and were involved in it.
The activity for the day was to explore images of self and others…Initially kids saw a few vegetables like onion, bitter gourd, beans, lemon and shared their thoughts on them. Almost everyone was eager to share their views. For bittergourd – comments were like good for health, kills worm, not tasty, bitter, don’t like, like, green colour, not smooth. For lemon – excitement was too high… it was for sharing lemon juice…. Other comments were tasty, sour, good for skin, to cool body rub on head, to remove stain, lemon rice, yellow colour, round. .Then they saw flowers like rose, chrysanthemum and shared their views. Then when asked whether can someone find a rose exactly like this. Most of them said ‘yes’, in the garden, in flower shop… Then when asked whether will it have the same number of petals as this one, with same size, same colour, same smell.. then they said not exactly, but that is also rose only…. Then I said you all are students in this class, are u all same… They together said ‘NO.’ We are different. Then kids passed pictures of different people in the circle until each gets a picture… Then they wrote their views in their notebook. After some time, they moved the picture to the next and started categorising. Few wanted to change their pictures as they didn’t like it (when they received a picture of a boxer, a person with angry face). Few had doubts as they didn’t know the name of the person in the picture. Few were fond of a picture and didn’t want to give it others. Few categorised picture of a lady in to a women, mother, sister, aunty, teacher…
Then kids reflected on three questions. 1. How I see myself? 2. How others see me? 3. How I want others to see me? Shared their views on a chit. These questions were confusing to them initially, then I said if I give a mirror what would u see… How would you categorise that person like how u did for the other pictures… Then they were busy writing… After completing they shook their hand. Once chits were collected they put their head down. Then after collecting chits… I asked what is ‘ME’. They said me, I only. They had brought their emotion chart given as a home work last week. They correlated and said they had different kind of emotions for this week and that they cannot fit in to any one category…
