A dream wallet…….

The session was focused on the process of designing a ideal wallet but the twist was that we were not designing for our self rather we were designing an ideal wallet for our partner.

Step one is to empathize with the partner and understand their requirement of a wallet. What all do you use the wallet for, what all features you need in a wallet, what are the things you keep in a wallet. Do you have more cash, coins or cards. What are you colour preferences, Do you keep it in your purse or in your pocket and so on.

The next step is to empathize deeper and really get to know the person. Understand the partners personality so that it can be incorporated in the wallet. Maybe they are attached to the family and would like a space for a family photo in the wallet or the person is forgetful and would like a detector or some way to keep the wallet with them always or they are scared of loosing money and would like a fingerprint lock on the wallet. Theperson is artistic and would like a pad and pen always handy or the person is athletic and would like the wallet to not disturb them when they are running but still stay with them and so on and so forth.

After gathering as much as data as we could of our partner we spent some time ideating, sketching designs of wallet. Then we took feedback from the partner on our design and modified it to meet the needs and wants of the partner. It tough to not add our fantasy of an ideal wallet when we are designing for someone else.

Then was the step to create a prototype of our design. This was the fun part. Lots of junk material was available and we enjoyed creating and designing a prototype wallet. Some made self defense glove wallet, some made wallet with tablets in them , some made simple yet elegant wallets, some made vampire or iron man wallets and so on. Some used cardboard, some stitched and some pasted but all tried and experimented with design thinking.
